The WIC Gardens are a project started by Laken Royall (WIC Supervisor for Yadkin County) and Yadkin County's Cooperative Extension employees Ashley Beard (Consumer Sciences) and Hannah Lepsch (Horticulture Agent). WIC (Women, Infants and Children) is a nutrition assistance program for women and children funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that serves pregnant women, breastfeeding women who have had a baby within the last 12 months, women who have had a baby in the last 6 months, infants and children up to age 5).
